Guide of SMALL FISH

Small Fish
Currently in development, SMALL FISH is a new puppet operetta in English by Henry Krieger (music) and Susan J.
SMALL FISH features the celebrated puppet star, La Pulcina Piccola, in the lead role.
A workshop of SMALL FISH is planned in Philadelphia in the spring of 2007 by 1812 Production Company.
The works is also under serious consideration for a production at New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) on a double bill titled “Fish & Fowl” with the celebrated Krieger/Vitucci collaboration, LOVE’S FOWL .
SMALL FISH has been developed in a series of NYTW residencies over the past four years.
The fiscal sponsor for SMALL FISH is The Field, a not-for-profit corporation under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code; all contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

'The targeting of freelance workers strikes me as shooting small fish in a barrel rather than chasing the real sharks', he said, adding that 'there was no consumer benefit to a policy which prohibits unions representing actors from negotiating rates and the NUJ from publishing a fees guide for freelance photographers'.

Historically, small fish species have proven useful both as environmental sentinels and as versatile test animals in toxicity and carcinogenicity bioassays.
This paper focuses on mechanistic considerations when using small fish models for carcinogenicity testing.
The Japanese medaka is perhaps the best characterized small fish model for carcinogenicity testing; however, the zebrafish is emerging as an important model because it is well characterized genetically.
Other considerations in study design include use of an initiating carcinogen, such as diethlynitrosamine, and differences in xenobiotic metabolism, such as the fact that fish CYP2B is refractory to phenobarbital induction.
The small size of these models has perhaps limited some types of mechanistic studies, such as formation and repair of DNA adducts in response to carcinogen exposure.
However, improved analytical methods are allowing greater resolution and should be applied to small fish species.
However, there is a need for development of more species-specific antibodies for fish research.
There is also a need for more fish-specific data on cytokines, serum biochemistry, and oncogenes to strengthen the use of these important test models..

Benefits

IngentaConnect Whole small fish as a rich calcium source
The present rat balance study investigated Ca availability from the whole indigenous small fish species, mola ( Amblypharyngodon mola ) from Bangladesh and from skimmed milk.
Four groups of six young male rats each were fed ad libitum with diets containing either small fish or milk, at 100 or 160 g crude protein/kg diet dry matter.
It was concluded from the values of these variables that Ca from small fish with bones was available and appeared to be a useful Ca source in rats, though perhaps not as available as Ca from milk.
This study suggests that small fish with bones may be an important source of Ca in human diets.
Promotion of the production and consumption of small fish in population groups with low intakes of milk and milk products should therefore be encouraged.
