Guide of SEA STAR

Review: Star of the Sea by Joseph O\'Connor | Review | Guardian Unlimited Books
There is a powerful novel by Liam O'Flaherty and a starkly moving drama by the contemporary playwright Tom Murphy.
Only when you can reclaim the past without either shame or nostalgia are you really free of it, which is one reason why Star of the Sea is to be acclaimed.
The Star of the Sea is a coffin ship, ploughing from Britain to America with a freight of evicted Irish scarecrows in steerage and a sprinkling of fascinatingly portrayed toffs in first class.
While other writers content themselves with fine-drawn cameos of suburban adultery, O'Connor ranges from workhouse destitution and grotesque prison violence to storms at sea and delicately sketched love scenes.
Star of the Sea is a polyphonic novel, as different voices, social accents and national idioms weave their way in and out of the text.

Sea and Sky\'s Cosmic Wonders: Star Clusters
Many of the stars in the universe are part of multiple star systems.
Most appear to be part of a binary system where two stars orbit a common center of gravity.
A few are even part of a triple star system.
But some stars are also part of a larger group.
They can be found together in associations known as star clusters.
Star clusters are groupings of stars held together by a common gravitational bond.
They vary greatly in size and shape as well as the number of stars.
Star clusters are among the most spectacular objects in the sky.
Astronomers have divided star clusters into two main types according to their shape and number of stars.
They usually contain somewhere between a dozen and a thousand stars.
Open star clusters are composed of hot, relatively young stars and tend to be found within the spiral arms of our Milky Way galaxy.
It is estimated that there are about 20, 000 open star clusters in our galaxy.
Gravitational interactions between the stars and other objects will cause these clusters to eventually disperse over time.
Open clusters are formed when several stars are formed at the same time from the same cloud of dust and gas.
Our own Sun is part of an open cluster than includes other nearby stars such as Alpha Centauri and Barnard's star.

Altadis USA, Inc. v. Sea Star Line, LLC, et al. - Medill - On the Docket
A couple thousand cigars are shipped by sea from Puerto Rico to Jacksonville, Fla., and then by land to Tampa, Fla.
A single contract covers the shipment for its entire journey across both land and sea – a contract that gives the shipper only one year to sue the carrier for losses.
Altadis owned the merchandise, Sea Star was the ocean carrier, and ATF handled overland transport for Sea Star.
Sea Star Line signed a contract – called a bill of lading – to bring Altadis' goods from Puerto Rico to Tampa in March 2003.
But although there was a single contract, it covered two distinct legs – first Sea Star brought the merchandise by sea to the port in Jacksonville, and then ATF, under contract with Sea Star, was to bring the goods by land to Tampa.
Altadis sued Sea Star and ATF in Florida, and the case was moved to federal court.
Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of ATF and Sea Star.
Secondly, the court said, the bill of lading specifically incorporated the Carriage of Goods by Sea Act, a maritime shipping law, thus strengthening Sea Star and ATF's position that COGSA and its one-year statute of limitations should apply rather than the Carmack Amendment..
