Cryospheric Climate Indicators: Sea Ice Index
NSIDC's State of the Cryosphere: Global Sea Ice Extent and Concentration: What sensors on satellites are telling us about sea ice.
Monthly sea ice concentration files in ArcInfo GIS interchange file format: Arctic and Antarctic maps derived from the Bootstrap Sea Ice Concentrations from Nimbus-7 SMMR and DMSP SSM/I data set.
Sea Ice Index Overview | Compare, Animate, or Download Data | Image Derivation | Interpretation Resources Overview In the Northern Hemisphere, sea ice reaches an annual minimum extent in September, and maximum extent in February or (usually) March, although there may be regional variations.
The images in the Sea Ice Index data set depict average ice conditions, estimated using satellite passive microwave data for the most recent month available, as well as snapshots of trends and anomalies that compare these recent conditions with the mean for the month..
The total extent of sea ice for the month is given..
Anomalies in ice concentration show if there is more or less ice for a given month than on average, both regionally (given by the color coding) and for the entire polar sea (given by the total anomaly number)..
Reductions in arctic sea ice cover no longer limited to summer.
BBC - Mid Wales Surfing - Aberystwyth Cam
Check out sea conditions using our latest webcam overlooking the promenade in Aberystwyth.
Ken in Canada:Yes, the sun does shine and sometimes the sea is actually blue! The view is through a tinted window, so there's always a slight brown cast.
The webcam on the Prom is wonderful! Very clear and bright, and I can really imagine myself, my husband and daughter out there, looking as the sea.
I stayed in Balmoral Halls and had a seafront window.
When I left I missed my friends and the murmur of the sea that put me to sleep every night...I hope to go back some day.
i love to be by he sea .and the fist time i was by the sea was in aber with my mom and dad .
then i meet my husband by the sea in aber.
so aber is very special to me thank you for these webcams so i can go to aber when ever i need to and be by the sea .
It also allows my mum to see good ol' Aber while she wishes she was there gazing at the sea.
Brings back memories of our day off the Golden Princess August 2005.So relaxing, sea smell, friendly folks in wonderful countryside. We will be back.
The best thrill was my first glimpse of the sea as we began our stroll along the prom from the Harbour ending up at Constitution Hill.
