I've never tried surf fishing, but it has to beat Oscar watching! I used to body surf a ways south of there (South of Pico).

few people have any idea how MANY fish there are in the surf and how many are all around them even when they are only knee-deep in the water!This ignorance is especially here in L.A.
Here are some facts that would boggle the mind of most Angelenos: Most of the fish we catch is in the whitewater IN FRONT of the waves.
The highly prized Corbina (1/2 to 5 lbs) is a salt-water-like-cat-fish that can easily be seen sucking up sand crabs in literally a few inches of water.
The local bay teems with sand sharks and bat rays (some of the easiest fish to catch).
It IS a wonder how they do survive! John… few people have any idea how MANY fish there are in the surf and how many are all around them even when they are only knee-deep in the water!This ignorance is especially here in L.A.
My brother and I were totally skunked on our fishing expedition this morning.
Of course, I love to eat bluefish so what do I know! Are ocean perch tasty? I’ve had the fresh water variety - not worth all the bones.

They are a very long-lived fish, probably one of the reasons they are so popular today.
Oscar Fish obviously requires a large tank due to their large size.
And since Oscars are large and very smart cichlids, you can actually teach them tricks, they might want something to do like digging up plant.
Be careful, they are enthusiastic eaters and they love to eat smaller fish.
Thus, only keep them with other fish that are of the same size.
Feeding Oscars is not a problem since they will take every food you give, including flake frozen fish, prawns, pellets, earth worms, crickets, kitchen scrapes…and of course live food.
If your Oscar is adult in size, it becomes a really trial-and-error process.
Probably the most common and effective method of finding pair of Oscars is to buy 6 or 8 young specimens (about 1 inch in length), and allowing them to grow up together.
If one of the fish is overly aggressive, and it is a one-sided aggression and you should separate them or risk loosing one of them.
Feeding these fry is easier than other breeds, because of the baby Oscar's relatively large size.

Sometimes the cause of a disease also causes another, the Oscar Fish Disease is sometimes found with fish that have rotting fins .
Fish that are stressed are more likely to be affected.
