As you dip your line in the water, be prepared for an explosive strike and a hard fight from a Steelhead trout or any number of freshwater fish that stock Island waters..
Knowledgeable guides and comfortable fishing resorts abound on Vancouver Island.
Freshwater fishing charters and resorts offer access to many of the Island’s prime fishing spots (some of them in remote areas) and all of the equipment and local fishing tips you need.
Some lakes and rivers are catch-and-release fishing only, but there are also plenty that allow you to keep what you land.

Over the last fifty five years of fishing and thirty plus years of guiding I've seen an enormous increase in not only the quality but also the selection of available fishing rods.

We were fishing a long underwater point in 8 to 10 feet of water with hydrilla growing up to about four feet off the bottom..
A rule of thumb when fishing Rogues is if cover is less than two feet deep, use a 1/4 ounce floater, if cover is about four to eight feet deep, use a 1/3 ounce medium floater, should they be inactive at this depth, use a 3/8 oz.
When doing aquatic research twenty years ago, before starting my Fishing Schools, I stumbled on why I think we catch more bass on plastic lizards, worms, etc.

NJDEP Division of Fish & Wildlife - Fishing License Information
NJ Fishing License Information Anyone age 16 and older must have a valid license (see Exceptions ) to fish the fresh waters of New Jersey with handline, rod and line, or longbow and arrow.
New Jersey does not require a general saltwater fishing license but there are a limited number of saltwater licenses and permits required.
Fishing licenses may be obtained from license agents or online.
Fishing licenses must be worn in a conspicuous place on the outer clothing while engaged in fishing, and must be exhibited to law enforcement personnel on request.
(Those purchasing a NJ Fishing License on their home computer systems will automatically be brought to the certification page.) LICENSES Resident Licenses .
Residents afflicted with total blindness may obtain a free fishing license from the Division of Fish and Wildlife.
No person between the ages of 16 and 69 shall take, attempt to take, or kill trout without a valid fishing license with a trout stamp attached.
NJ Residents Age 70 and Over - A driver's license or other acceptable proof of age containing date of birth and physical description will function as the actual fishing license for New Jersey residents 70 and over.
