The Gulf of Mexico Fisheries Council is reviewing thousands of public comments and, according to the National Marines Servies, will soon rule on proposed red snapper regulations.
The NMFS has been under pressure from the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, and the Coastal Conservation Association, to end over-fishing.
So they proposed a rule that would, in part, reduce the allowable catch of red snapper in the Gulf of Mexico by commercial and recreational fishers from 9.12 million pounds to 6.5 pounds.
