Great Lakes Commission: Statewide Public Advisory Council (SPAC)
This web page provides a variety of information on the Great Lakes Areas of Concern (AOC) program and associated Remedial Action Plans (RAP).
Information contained on this web page will be updated and expanded as needed as the RAP program evolves.
Remedial Action Plans (RAP) have been developed and are being implemented through an ecosystem-based, multi-media approach for assessing impairments and restoring beneficial uses in designated Areas of Concern in the Great Lakes Basin.
Successful RAPs are community driven with active federal, state and local involvement.
Currently, RAP documents for Michigan's Areas of Concern are available on CD.
and binational Area of Concern RAP documents may be made available on CD in the future.
For further information on RAP documents for specific U.S.
or binational AOCs, contact the appropriate EPA RAP liaison .
This Area of Concern Contact List includes RAP advisory council chairs, state contacts, federal contacts, local coordinators and other contacts for each U.S.
In order to move towards formal delisting, RAPs need delisting targets to gauge their success.
This document is designed to provide the minimum delisting targets acceptable under State of Ohio regulations and policies, and to provide Ohio RAPs with a baseline from which to fashion targets and milestones that may be specific to their AOC..

UC Davis Wildlife Health Center: California Conservation--RAP and WDP
The Wildlife Health Center is currently working on two major California conservation projects for the California Department of Fish and Game: Emerging Issues in Ecosystem and Wildlife Health and the development of the California Wildlife Action Plan.
Facing the enormous challenge of protecting of the state’s wildlife, including a strategy to coordinate research efforts and prioritize funding of projects based on public benefit, the California Department of Fish and Game asked the Wildlife Health Center to partner with them in developing and administering the Resource Assessment Program (RAP).
The projects provided objective scientific information to the Department of Fish and Game to inform management and policy.
The Wildlife Health Center has submitted a report to the California Department of Fish and Game evaluating the scientific literature documenting lead exposure in California condors and sentinel wildlife species.
This report is being used to provide information for the Department to base recommendations to the California Fish and Game Commission..
Geographic distribution of heavy metal exposure in sentinel wildlife will be evaluated and we will look for clusters of exposure within and outside of the condor range both before and after any new hunting regulations.

Benefits

Thunder Bay RAP
Fish consumption restrictions Negative pressures on fish populations Dredging restrictions Loss of species abundance and diversity Reduced recreational opportunities Decline in aesthetic values What is being done? How is it being done? In order to improve the environmental conditions noted above, a Remedial Action Plan (RAP) has been developed for Thunder Bay.
The Thunder Bay RAP is a partnership between the federal and provincial governments with cooperation from a Public Advisory Committee (PAC).
defining the problem planning for implementation implementing the actions monitoring the restoration of the environment A list of recommended remedial actions to restore the above environmental conditions was developed through the RAP process, which included consultation with the public.
HIGHLIGHT of the RAP Contaminated sediments are recognized as significant contributors to impaired water quality in the Great Lakes.
The project, referred to as the Northern Wood Preservers Alternative Remediation Concept (NOWPARC), was a plan to isolate the contaminant source, clean-up the contaminated sediment, and enhance fish habitat.
The Northern Wood Preservers Alternative Remediation Concept (NOWPARC) was a significant project for the RAP.
