Fish Pond Volume Calculator
It is to determine the volume of a fish pond structure.
For the purposes of this calculator, a fish pond is a pool, pond or lake, of regular or irregular shape, to hold water and fish.
This calculator does not approach the construction methods of the fish pond, only the volume requirements.
In this calculator, the fish pond is assumed to be irregular but it could be the surface shape of a square, a rectangle, a circle (or percentage thereof), a triangle, all with depth (examples might be a cube, cylinder, rectangular prism or triangular prism, or an irregular shaped of those combinations), volume capable, structure.
If it is an irregular fish pond, segment it into the surface shape of a rectangle and up to four triangles.
The depth is from the surface of the pond to the bottom and is consistent in all calculations; if this is not a universal depth, take an average.
These figures can all be used to determine fish densities for cold or warm water ponds or lakes.

For best results we recommend about four weeks after the pond has been planted as this allows plants to start growing and gives the fish shelter and natural nourishment.
However it is possible to add a few fish sooner as long as you have used a de-chlorinator and pond conditioner.
Never introduce large quantities of fish together, always stock a pond over period of months.
All ponds will vary in planting density and filtration capacity which will effect possible stocking levels.
However a good rule for initial stocking is 5 cm or 2 in of fish per 0.1 sq.
This will allow the fish room to grow, and remember fish can breed quite quickly.
The fish will be supplied in strong plastic bags.
The fish will be quite happy in these bags for a couple of hours, but do keep them cool, quiet and shaded.
As with planting a pond its best to have a balance of fish, with bottom, mid and surface feeders all doing there own part in the ponds eco-system.
Remember some fish such as koi grow very large and are unsuitable in small ponds.
Float bag with the newly purchased fish for 20 minutes to allow them to acclimatise while ensuring the top of the bag has been rolled down and some of the pond water is splashed in.
