Experiments Gone Awry Terror in the Water When Animals Attack Disasters at Sea .
Susan McAlester (Saffron Burrows ) has been using mako sharks as her test subjects for research on the regeneration of human brain tissues.
The shark not only attacks the researchers but also damages the floating lab, leaving the crew aboard a literally sinking ship, with the makos eager to go a few rounds - in an arena that favors sharks.
Deep Blue Sea was directed by Renny Harlin , and filmed in Mexico at Fox Studios Baja in the underwater filming facilities created for James Cameron 's Titanic ..

Dear Evan: Recently one of my coworkers told me that the phrase 'between the devil and the deep blue sea' has nothing to do with the Devil (Satan), and that it's actually a very old seafaring term.
The story your coworker has heard about 'between the devil and the deep blue sea, ' meaning 'to be caught between two equally unpleasant dangers, ' is not absolutely untrue, but it's not the origin of the phrase, either.
To recap what your friend probably told you: the 'devil' in this phrase is not Old Nick -- it was sailor's slang for a seam around the hull of an old sailing ship, all the way down by the waterline.
The seams of wooden ships required periodic caulking with pitch (a tar-like substance) lest they develop leaks, and often this caulking had to be done while the ship was at sea.
A sailor lowered over the side to caulk 'the devil' found himself in a very precarious position indeed -- 'between the devil and the deep blue sea.' It's a nice story, but the problem is that 'between the devil and the deep blue sea' was used by landlubbers for at least 200 years before there is any evidence of its use afloat, and the written record makes it clear that the original 'devil' in the phrase was, in fact, Satan.

WHOI : Oceanus : Going Wireless in the Deep Blue
Going Wireless in the Deep Blue Deploying instruments to monitor the ocean is one thing.
Enlarge Image A surface buoy serves as the communications hub between the seafloor and shore-based researchers using the new, acoustically based observatory.
Enlarge Image Researchers and ship crew on the R/V Atlantis lower an ocean-bottom seismometer over the side of the ship, on its way to its “virtual connection” to the Nootka mooring system.
The Nootka acoustically linked deepwater observatory is like a wireless computer network: Instruments and users may come and go from the system, sending and receiving data without upsetting the other users and without the fuss of attaching cables.

You’re exploring how currents develop in the ocean, or how salt and spray are exchanged with the atmosphere, or how superheated fluids and lava erupt from the seafloor..
But the view is only skin deep, as cameras and lasers can only penetrate the top few meters of water..
You could build a cabled observatory, running power and communications cables to an array of instruments on the seafloor and obtaining data in real time.

Autodesk - Media & Entertainment Solutions - Deep Blue Sea Rides Linux Wave to HD
Miami, FL—As a premier broadcast design and effects shop serving the American TV market, Deep Blue Sea has switched from an SGI® IRIX®-based Autodesk® Flame® system to a Linux®-based Flame system to gain a greater competitive advantage in an increasingly multi-standard post environment.
“Since we specialize in visual effects compositing and motion graphics for broadcast design and commercials, we rely on the powerful, varied toolset within Flame for virtually every job, ” says Carlos Rondon, Executive Producer for Deep Blue Sea..
“With our strategic move to Linux, we hope to position Deep Blue Sea as the headquarters for High-Definition video in Florida.
At Deep Blue Sea, 80 percent of the projects are agency-driven commercials, while 20 percent involve broadcast design for networks such as DirecTV® telecommunications-owned Mundial Total’s Soccer World Cup channel and Telemundo, among many others..
For example, Deep Blue Sea created an extensive broadcast design package for the 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cup games carried by DirecTV Latin America using the older system.
A Gravitational Shift to HD “It’s very telling that the first two projects we did using the Flame on Linux both involved resolutions higher than NTSC, ” says David Woodward, creative director for Deep Blue Sea.
