Clownfish, Anemonefishes (Clownfish), Family: Pomacentridae
Clownfish can be very colorful and are very hardy in captivity.
They get their name because of their "waddling" like swimming motion and their clown-like markings.
to access information on each type of Clownfish .
Clownfish are in the same family as damselfish but usually the two are separated into anemonefish (clownfish), and damselfish.
The clownfish live in symbiosis with certain anemones.
This means they live together and both the clownfish and the anemone benefiting from each others company.
Clownfish can be kept in an aquarium with or without an anemone but if you decide to keep an anemone you should make sure its special needs are met.
Most fish in this family, Pomacentridae , can become territorial (aggressive) when they get older.
Among the exceptions to this are the Green Chromis, the Blue reef chromis, and the skunk clown..
Don't see your favorite Clownfish here?.
In captivity these Anemonefish (Clownfish) will eat almost everything that it is offered.
In nature many clownfish will live with the same anemone.
Only one clown will be a dominant female and the rest will be male.
Host anemones are listed in the description of each clownfish, although these are the anemones the fish are found with in nature, many clownfish will adopt other types of anemones in the aquarium..

My clown fish that I have had less than 5 hours has... - Q&A
My clown fish that I have had less than 5 hours has...
My clown fish that I have had less than 5 hours has developed a white cotton-like substance between the last white strip and the last top fin.
Is this Lymphocystis or is it finrot? If it is one of these things, how to I treat it and is it contagious to my other fish?.
I had the same thing happen with my clown fish within couple hours of introducing it to my tank.
I am thinking about getting a clown fish for my new aquarium.
I just have a question for anyway looking, my clown fish has been swimming around with its mouth open all the time, does any one know what this wierd behavior means?.
I think you should go to a pet store or the aquarium where you brought your fish and ask for there advice and hopefully they'll be able to help you.
You can treat this by putting your into some fresh water, same temperature as your tank for several minutes, the diferent osmosic pressure will relieve your fish of the fungus, think about getting a sea anemone to keep its skin in good condition.
NO! Don't get a sea anenome! Clown fish need anenomes only in the wild, and It will not help the fungus.
