A sea monster is destroying ships in the south pacific, and no one knows where to find it.
The US government sends out a war ship to investigate the rumors since all ships have ceased sailing in fear of the monster.
The ship is sent out with three special passengers: Prof.
After months at sea with no sighting of the sea monster the ship is ready to complete it's mission.
However, at the last moment they see a ship in trouble and go to rescue them.
This in turn gets the ship attacked by the giant sea monster.
The ship is incapacitated and sinks to the depths of the ocean with only the Profession, his assistant, and Ned Land surviving.
The three survivors discover that a magnificent submarine, The Nautilus, was a boat that the world had mistaken for a giant sea monster.
They are taken aboard the submarine as prisoners/guests by Captain Nemo (James Mason), an eccentric driven man.
Aboard the submarine the characters are taken on many journeys, including a climatic battle with a giant sea squid.
Also included on the DVD is the original Donald Duck cartoon short "Grand Canyonscope", which was shown in the theaters before 20, 000 Leagues Under The Sea.

20, 000 Leagues Under The Sea Overview The 20, 000 Leagues Under The Sea attraction at Walt Disney World was based on the 1954 Disney live-action film by the same name.
The attraction recreated the events that took place aboard the Nautlis in the classic film.
Guests would climb aboard one of twelve different Nautilus submarines and join Captain Nemo to explore the depths of the ocean.
Along the way visitors would encounter exotic sea life, mermaids, underwater cities, and even come face to face with the monstrosities of the ocean's depths.
20, 000 Leagues Under The Sea History When Disneyland opened in 1955 the Imagineers placed the original movie props from the 20, 000 Leagues Under The Sea movie on display in Tomorrowland .
Guests where able to view scale models of the Nautilus and walk through recreations of the Nautilus' interiors.
Also on display was the giant rubber squid from the film's climactic scene.
In the spring of 1959 Disneyland opened an attraction called The Submarine Voyage .
The attraction made it's debut in Fantasyland on October 14, 1971 and until it's demise was one of the Magic Kingdoms most popular attractions.
